Apple Hat Tutorial

Today Heidi is sharing her hat from her Fall-Inspired look last week.....thanks Heidi!

Hello Project Run & Play Readers!  I am so thrilled to be able to share with you how I made the hat from the Apple of My Eye outfit from holiday week!

The fabric I used was a wool/poly blend, and I highly recommend it or any other that doesn't require finishing on the edges (like fleece or a jersey knit).

I drafted my own pieces, but it would be very easy to create this hat using this great tutorial.  Here are the pieces I used:

Fold lower crown in half, and stitch together to make a circle.
Attach lower crown to upper crown.

Fold band in half widthwise, and stitch together at ends.  Pin elastic to band, about 2 1/2 inches from the back on both sides.

Zigzag on the elastic, stretching it across the fabric as you sew.

Fold band in half, lengthwise, and stitch to the lower crown.

Cut out your leaf pieces.  I added a quilted knit to add some padding to the middle of the leaf.  Use a fabric marker to draw your leaf lines on one of the pieces.  Stitch over your drawn lines.

Sew leaf pieces together, with the piece you want in the centre on the outside, and the two outer pieces facing each other.

Sew your leaf pieces together, leaving a small hole for turning right side out.

Turn right side out, and blind stitch the opening closed.

Make a small piece of bias tape ribbon for your stem (here's a tutorial).  Hand stitch the stem & leaf onto your hat.

Thank you so much for having me here today!  See you in a few days at the Finale! :)
