Meet the Designer: Fey of Tween Studio

Hello!

Hi everyone. My name is Fey and my blog tweensstudio.id was created as a platform for me to share my love of sewing. I have been sewing for almost 5 years now. Started when my girl was just 2 years old. At that time, we just moved in to our house in Bogor, Indonesia. It is about 3 hour drive from the capital city of Jakarta, Indonesia and about 2 hour away from the city I was growing up with.

Homesick and Alone, since hubby spent equal time abroad for work, I found peace in Sewing. Sewing has becoming my safe place. My twin sister actually introduced me to Sewing. But she did bag making instead of clothing. And since I am never such a bag person, I am focusing on sewing clothes for my girl. Bought my first sewing machine and never looked back. My sewing adventures began here.

I learnt everything from Internet. Youtube was the first place I went to learn about sewing. From how to thread your sewing machine to how to draft basic skirt. I was a bit frustrated at first because everything I made did not fit my girl well. But then as I was browsing through Facebook, I came across Violette Field Threads Pattern facebook ads and that was how I found out about pdf pattern.

I can honestly say, I have learnt so much from PDF pattern I bought. I slowly collected patterns from several designers, and joined many sewing groups on facebook. After 6 months or so, I saw a pattern tester call from Bella Sunshine Designs and nervously applying for the tester and to my surprised, Melissa picked me as one of her testers. This gave me the confidence to apply for more test for other designers. And I never stopped.

This is one of my early testing project. This is  Josephine from Bella Sunshine Designs

I mostly sew for my girl, Jade. She is 7 year old and loves dressing up and modelling. I have to give her credit for modelling the clothes I made, because she makes everything looks so good. And now she has such a strong idea about what she wants, and it pushes me to start hacking the pattern to  make her something she likes.

I hacked this Oud Pinafore from The Eli Monster to turn it into a dress.

I found Project Run and Play when Susana from Suco by Susana sending out testing calls for Metro Pants and I am in love with this PRP ever since. I am just blown away with all the designers participating on each seasons and I love going through every blog post about all the designs and learning so much from there.

I don't have the ability to draft my own pattern nor to design something from scratch. I normally just go to pinterest to get the idea and try to mix few patterns to get the look I want. but I like to challenge myself to get better. So in my blog, I want to share everything I have learned so far. and maybe diving into pattern drafting too. who knows, right?!
