Season 27 Meet the Designers: Janelle

I’m Janelle. (janellesews on Insta.)  Wife to a very handy husband who dabbles in woodworking and photography, and Mum to 2 amazing daughters who constantly make me laugh.  We live in Australia on a little bit of land with a handful of sheep, 2 cats and a fish.  We love going camping, and going on hikes and adventures as we explore new places.

I work as a pharmacist in a little country town with a great team of people who make work fun.  I play cricket myself, and spend a decent amount of time watching my family play cricket and netball or performing dance and acro.

My Mum taught me to sew as a kid and bought me a sewing machine for my 16th birthday.  I never really gave it up, but I definitely had a renewed enthusiasm for sewing when I was pregnant with my eldest.  As my kids have grown, and their interests and tastes in clothes have developed, my sewing trends have also adjusted.  I’d much rather sew things that get worn all the time, rather than masterpieces that gather dust in their wardrobes.  So my kids are heavily involved in the design process.

I struggle to find much time to sew, and can go for months at a time without touching my machine.  But if I wake up at 5am and can’t go back to sleep, I can often squeeze in a smidgen of sewing before anyone else wakes up, and it’s a great way to start the day!

I have been sewing along with Project Run and Play for years.  I have always been inspired by what others have made, and the format has motivated me to sew outfits rather than individual pieces.  I have also tested a few patterns and written a few things for the blog.  I am terrified but also excited about stepping up and having a go as a designer for this season.
