Skirting the Issue: Kristin from Skirt As Top

Today we have another former contestant from Project Run and Play.  Back from season 3 we have Kristin from Skirt as Top sharing a fun and fruity skirt idea.

Hi, I'm Kristin from skirt as top, and I'm so happy that Liz and Elizabeth asked me to contribute a tutorial to Skirting the Issue. Sewing for charity is something I always want to do more of, but it's so easy to let it slide by as I go about my daily routine. This was the perfect push I needed to do the most unselfish of sewing, and I'm really glad I did. My inspiration for these little skirts is fresh, summer fruit. Citrus fruit, berries, and melons are summertime staples to me, and I thought it'd be fun to color-block slices of fruit in skirt form. Once I had that idea, I couldn't help but make more! It was fun playing with color combos and thinking of how to represent different fruits in a piece of clothing. I could have keep going and going, but had to stop somewhere! These are quick to sew, comfy for a little gal, and require no hemming. They're fruit stripe skirts! fruit stripe skirt tutorial The construction may be simple, but the effect is really fun. You can play with prints, color, stamping, whatever inspires you…and make a summery skirt for your little gal (or to donate to a great cause!) fruit stripe skirt tutorial I made multiple flavors…stamped and seedy: fruit stripe skirt tutorial and striped and citrusy: fruit stripe skirt tutorial As I was making these, I remembered that a couple years ago I'd made a few toddler-size skirts to sell in boutiques - I never worked up the nerve to try to sell them but they never fit my daughter properly either, so they were basically unworn. Those got a good pressing, some size tags, and they're getting donated too! Maybe you have some unworn/unloved sewing creations you're not too sentimental about that you can rustle up? I'm sure there's a need for whatever we can send, skirts or otherwise. If you're ready to learn how to make these color blocked fruit stripe skirts, come on over to skirt as top today for my full tutorial! Thanks so much for having me, ladies. Take care and happy sewing, everyone!
