Meet the Designer: Brooke from Idle Sunshine

Hi all!

I’m Brooke from Idle Sunshine and I am so happy to be here!

I live north of Newcastle in NSW, Australia with my husband and 3 kids (11, 9 and 7.)

I started my blog to share some of my pattern testing adventures a few years ago.  Since then I have pattern tested for over 30 designers, promoted pattern and fabric companies, blogged in many tours and guest blogged on other sites.

I have always loved sewing and creating since I was a little girl, but never invested any regular time into it until about 4 years ago.  I am a problem solver and I love maths, so I love the challenge of playing with patterns to create something new!

I am well known as a pattern hacker, up-cycler, stripe matcher, pattern clasher, procrastinator and night owl.  It’s lucky I don’t need a lot of sleep, because I work a part time job in a school, I have a weight loss coaching business, volunteer a lot of time and I have 3 busy kids to run around after!  It’s for this reason that I’ve mostly kept my sewing as a hobby, it’s so rewarding to have a hobby you love!

I love my time to myself in my sewing room late at night once everyone has gone to bed.  I make a coffee and binge watch netflix tv series as I sew!

I like my sewing to be practical and very wearable, so sewing to a theme was never on my list of things I’d like to do.  But this season is very laid back (just like us Aussies) and I can definitely make the themes work for us!

When I’m not sewing you’ll find me cooking, reading, travelling in our caravan, hiking and now riding a bike (because of an injured foot!)… But mostly you’ll find me sewing or thinking about sewing, or doing anything other than housework!

I hope you like the spin I bring to Project Run & Play this season, I’d love to see you all sewing along as well!

You can follow my makes on my blog, on facebook and instagram too!

Warmest wishes, Brooke x
