Skirting the Issue: Jessica from Me Sew Crazy

IMG_7309.2 Hi everyone! Jessica from Me Sew Crazy here, a Season 2 contestant, and one of the 'sewalong' judges for Project Run & Play! I am honored to be taking part in the Skirting the Issue event, helping children in Foster Care is a fantastic cause. And I applaud Liz & Elizabeth for taking it on this Summer!

That being said, I really wanted to come up with a skirt that would be able to fit multiple sizes. It's easy to use a skirt you already have on hand as a template. But more often than not - if you are making something for a child that isn't yours (like one in Foster Care for example), you don't have that template skirt. So how do you make something that is guaranteed to fit a child of multiple ages and sizes, without using elastic? I give you my version of the Wrap Skirt...

By adapting the traditional wrap skirt by using multiple buttonholes along the waistband, this ensures a proper fit every time. And of course, by not using elastic this wrap skirt is suitable to make for any age or size - Child, teen, or adult! So, let's get down to business. Making the Wrap Skirt. If making this for a child, you will need approximately 1 yard of fabric and your basic sewing essentials. For your free pattern to fit sizes 3 thru 6T, see below at the end of this post. But I will also show you how to draft your own pattern. Let's get started... Skip the first 2 steps if you are using the free pattern offered

Tute3 Tute4 Tute5 Tute6 Tute7 Tute8 Tute9 Tute10 Tute11 You may want to add more than one beltloop for the various sizes. This ensures a proper fit and keeps the waist band tie in place. Tute12 And there you have it! A super cute Wrap Skirt that will fit just about anyone... IMG_7328
