Meet the Designer: Melissa from Melly Sews

Hi, I'm Melissa and I blog over at Melly Sews. I am excited/shocked/intimidated/ECSTATIC to be a contestant in this season of Project Run and Play.

I am mom to two boys under the age of 4, I work full time as a theatre teacher, and am married to a high school football coach in central Texas. If you've ever seen the TV show Friday Night Lights...well, let's just say not only was that filmed where I live, that is my life from late July through November (and often beyond). But hey, adding sewing to the mix just makes things more fun!

My mom claims I've been sewing since I was 3, with a needle and thread, and running back and forth to have her cut things because I wasn't allowed to use scissors. Over the years mom and I created both my prom and wedding dresses, and since high school I've been adding to my skills in designing my own clothing and clothing for my kids. Not to mention the costumes I've designed and sewn or taught others to sew as part of my job. I started blogging last summer as an outlet for projects, and now I've added blogging to the list of things I love to do. Also on that list is hanging with my boys, watching football, acting, writing, directing, horseback riding, knitting, spinning yarn, photography (especially the editing - I love Photoshop!), pattern designing, teaching, power tools and home improvement.

I can't wait to see what this season brings, and I am over the moon to be a part of it!

  1. So interesting to learn about everyone's sewing backgrounds. I love it that you are a theater teacher too. Very cool Melissa!
