Meet the Designer: Melissa of Rebel and Malice

Now let's all welcome our next talented designer, Melissa!

Hi my name is Melissa. I blog my creations at Rebel & Malice. You will find me wandering the hot, dry, windy high desert of Southern California with my 5 kids, husband and rescued pitbull. I learned how to sew by hand around the age of 5, but didn't pick it back up until my first daughter was born. I instantly went into upcycle mode and pattern drafting. This was where I found my knack for creating one of a kind designs. I didn't want to be able to find it anywhere else. I wanted to create less waste and I wanted to make sure I was having fun with my visions.

Now my daughter is 12 years old, who still loves what I make her. Now I sew from patterns often if I have a tried and true fit, but hack away. My style is definitely a mix of modern edge with some old Hollywood and mid century vibes, though the 70s have tons of silhouettes I still love dearly. Chiffons, Georgette, crepe, organza, lace are all some of my favorite fabrics to work with so be on the lookout for my obsession with soft, floaty sheer fabrics. My favorite things to sew are swimsuits & costumes. Like borderline obsessed!

When I am not sewing, I am obsessed with nature, exploring anything esoteric, occult or just plain magical, music, movies and books. I can be found reading tarot and oracle cards daily, gardening, hiking throughout my town, helping people explore their shadows, attending concerts, binging on supernatural fiction and television. And I also slightly unschool my youngest child.

I'm so excited to be a part of Project Run & Play and this has been something I have been admiring and watching for some time! I can't wait to share my crazy ideas with all of you.
