Meet the Designer: Jenny of Made of Starlite

Hey guys, I'm Jenny from Made of Starlite. I sew and play in Kansas City with my husband and three mini-mes! 🧑👩👦👧🧒 I like exclamation points, emojis, and dry wit.

I'm new to this blogging thing, but I have been dreaming of being a fashion designer since I could draw! I used to finish worksheets as fast as possible in elementary school so that I could have time to design more clothes for the paper doll I made and stuck to the bottom of my desk with Sticky Tack. 😏 In college, my roomate and I binge watched Project Runway on the weekends, drawing up collections we would some day sew so we could enter. So basically, being selected as a designer for Project Run and Play is fulfiling that life-long dream! 🎉😄🎉

I was taught to sew at age five by my mom and Grandma. I ruined more than one sewing machine sewing Barbie clothes with the machine threaded incorrectly. At age 16, I sewed an authentic Renaissance outfit for myself so my friends and I could work at our local Renaissance fair. But outside of costumes, I didn't start sewing things I could wear everyday until I stumbled upon the sewing blog community five years ago. I love that all those dreams of designing my own clothes from little 9-year-old me are now a reality as I sew for my own children, and sometimes myself. And cousins. And friends. And kids at church. And my sisters. "You get a shirt! And You get a shirt! Everyone gets a shirt!"
