Wow these ladies are so talented! I was so impressed with every entry. Here they are:
1- Katy's Avalanche (Winner!)
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes...that's what came to my mind when Micalah told us the theme for this week. A cascading skirt and an arbitrarily pleated sash were an obvious marriage. A faux fur cuff seemed like the perfect je ne sais quoi for Olive's Snowy Skirt.
2- Shauna's Snow White in Wonderland
When I first thought of Winter Wonderland my mind went back to the classic winter look the cape. I wanted to update it for modern times and so I added elastic so that it would fit a little more snug around her, as well as giving it a cropped fit which makes it perfect for layering as well. I layered this look with a dress perfect for winter with a hand embroidered snow owl peaking out the bottom, and the perfect "puff" sleeve. The leggings add to the whole look made out of an old sweater it adds the perfect cozy knit look and add a crisp white color.
3- Lindsay's Winter Snowflake Dress
The Winter Snowflake Dress was originally inspired by the round, vintage crocheted collar. The cozy feel of the felted cashmere sweater, the snowflake-like damask fabric and the winter, sweater beret also lends itself to the feeling of "Winter Wonderland". The dress is finished with romantic, feminine touches such as the large ruffle and picot edging on the bottom as well as the slightly gathered sleeves and tiny shell buttons.
4- Jessica's Snowflake Dress
When I hear the words: Winter Wonderland, I think of silver and white, and snowflakes. Even though I live in California, we do have cloudy winter days, so that's why I was drawn to this silvery grey satin. I made a simple dress-but accented it with a white snowball-esque sash. Sewn into each snowball is a little snowflake button, and it ties in the back. I just had to make a matching hair piece, so I made a cute and easy headband with some extra fabric and pearls. Though my daughter has yet to see snow for herself-at least no one can say she's not all decked out in her winter finest!
5- Susan's Winter Whites
I've was really inspired by the 'winter white' trend that I've seen lately in fashion. The idea is, to mix neutrals, grays + whites.
The shoes are made with faux shearling + gold leather, the pants are made out of knit + the shirt has been dyed gray + embellished with sequins.

I think one of my favorite things to see in the winter is a frosted window pane. I think it is so beautiful in its faraway simplicity and close up intricacy. I was thinking about that when I made Evie this outfit. But I had to be realistic and remember that while the theme is winter wonderland we do live almost ON the equator and "winter" is still in the low 90's :) I cut out about 80 little snowflakes and strung them to garlands. Then we got a HUGE bag of shred from the embassy and headed to my favorite (yes there are several to choose from) destroyed church here in Dili where we hung the garlands and proceeded to create a fake snow storm. (The locals got a HUGE kick out of this)
The skirt is made from a vintage mens shirt, which gives the striping a nice and worn look which I LOVE. There are are 3 tiers on the top and a ruffled edge and 3 tiers of gathered soft tulle underneath.
The bolero is my own design and I will be offering the free pattern as usual over at SNML. It is made from soft breathable cotton. For her onesie I hand stitched a beautiful lace piece along the neckline (although you can barely see it in any of the pictures).
Her hat is honestly my pride and joy. This is the first thing I have ever crocheted (or knitted, or anything of that nature) and is a knockoff of a newborn beret that no longer fits Evie. (Thank you Rachel for being sooooo patient with my sad sad skills ha!)
The shoes are straight up Target clearance :) and actually not very suitable for a normal Winter Wonderland ha! To find the patterns for the skirt and bolero and tutorials to go a long with them hop on over to Sewing In No Mans Land. Hope we get your vote!
7- Ashley's Ice Princess
I was a little anxious about creating a winter wonderland design since we live in the desert: think 70 degrees and palm trees....but I love a good challenge as well! I used the "ice palace" from the movie Doctor Zhivago as my design inspiration. The top of the jumper is made from a thick wool houndstooth suiting material and the bottom a luxuriously soft, thick ivory fleece. The ivory fleece pants have an extra long bell shaped ruffle to fit perfectly over snow boots. A warm matching hat finishes the outfit. We ventured out one cool desert night to capture a few photos. My daughter had so much fun carrying a vintage mink stole that was her great-grandmother's.....she made sure to tell everyone passing by that she was an "ice princess."
8- Kirstin and Jordan's White Ruffles
Every girl needs a white dress full of frilly, ruffle-y, layer-y fluff (granted, the lucky Little Miss got one a little earlier than most of us). Layers of slightly tattered silk and cotton are the picture of Winter Wonderland couture. Even better, the entire lining is soft jersey so Miss Piper Jane looks like she came from a boutique but feels like she's wearing her jammies.
So there they are! Amazing, huh? Happy voting! Just a reminder, the poll will close Sunday at midnight. :)

ReplyDeleteP.S. Just my opinion, but don't you think these pictures should be larger so we can all enjoy them more? It's really easy to resize pictures if you use the Windows Live Writer program. I just think it'd help us all see everything--they put so much effort into them:). Great contest--thanks for putting it together!

I vote #1. Wow! I can tell there is a lot of work involved in this design and it looks like something you would see on Project Runway. Very worthy of the highest award!
ReplyDeleteThe others are so cute too.
I vote #8. Simply Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThey all are beautiful! No 2 and 6 are so unexpected and original! The construction of those fab sleeves on 2 rocks my world. And Mix of fabrics on 6 makes me drool! I think 2, just b/c the color and the style are so surprising and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWow! These are some talented ladies:) Hard to pick just one!
ReplyDeleteSooooooo hard to choose just 1!!! What beautiful things! I saw the first and was awestruck by how wonderlandish it looked. Then I went further and wanted to vote for all of them!
ReplyDeleteAll the entries are ridiculously gorgeous and it's completely unreasonable and unfair to only be able to pick one! Congrats to all contestants.
ReplyDelete#8... absolutely darling
ReplyDeletei vote #3! :)
ReplyDelete#3- Lindsay's Winter Snowflake Dress is my favorite, but #6- Kelly's Frosted Pane is a close second! Hard to decide from all the choices, however asking myself which one I would make for my own little granddaughter cinched the decision!
ReplyDeleteI vote for 7 ^_^
ReplyDelete#3 is practical and scream I LOVE WINTER!
ReplyDeleteFor me it's definitely #3. Beautiful, classy and something I can see my daughter wearing.
ReplyDeleteHard to vote -- number 3 is the prettiest garment, in my opinion, but the details are things I could figure out myself. (And we are talking getting a tutorial here) ... so I voted for number 2. I probably wouldn't cut the sleeves so far into the bodice, but other than that, it's pretty awesome. She took some risks.
ReplyDeleteKaty, Katy, Katy!
ReplyDelete#4 for sure!
ReplyDeleteMy vote is for Jessica's Snowflake dress (#4). So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYeah I have no idea how I'm supposed to vote for this. I have several favorites. This contest is going to give me an anxiety attack.
