First off....a HUGE thank you. Really and truly. We have been getting some emails in our inbox that have brought both of us to tears. One CASA group in Texas has taken it upon themselves to find donations to give 100 foster kids each a new back-to-school outfit. (You can read all about it HERE and see photos of their sew along group HERE.)
We have read about sewing groups who are hosting Skirting the Issue nights and others who have organized drives for everything from back to school supplies to shoes. Its amazing and even more than we hoped for.
Sometimes I forget how wonderful people can. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time participate in Skirting the Issue. We appreciate you...
Currently we have 30 skirts that have been made for donation that have been photographed and uploaded to our Skirting the Issue Flickr Group. Which means we are almost half way to our goal of having 100 skirts donated by Aug. 10th! (If you make a skirt-or skirts to donate please remember to post a photo of each of them in the Flickr Group so that you are eligible to win one of our awesome prizes....like a brand new sewing machine, fun fabric bundles, and a list of some other great items.)
Ok....now on to other exciting news....
Elizabeth and I have talked for a long time now about hosting a sewing night where anyone who wants to can come, visit and sew....and it seems like now would be the perfect time. Sooooooo....
Here are the details of our first ever sewing night!
***Skirting the Issue Sewing night***
Who: Anyone who would like to join us
What: An evening of sewing skirts for Skirting the Issue
When: Thursday, July 26th from 5:30pm-8:00pm
Where: Hobby Lobby in American Fork, Utah
Why: To have fun, visit, sew, and whip up as many skirts as we can for Skirting the Issue
How: Bring your self, your sewing machine, and your supplies and join us in the Hobby Lobby classroom for a night of skirt making.
What to expect: An evening for sewing...this will be a casual evening...no door prizes, DJ's, or decorations. (Sorry) It will just be us sewing. Ok and maybe a giant bowl cinnamon bears and liZ with her soda mug. But that is as fancy as things are going to get.
(Remember we are the recluses of the blogging world so this night, in and of itself is a bit of a miracle.)
We are REALLY EXCITED about this (thank you Hobby Lobby for allowing us to use your classroom that night!) and hope to see many of you there. Sewing and good company are two of our favorite things and we think that July 26th should be filled with both!
PS---If you are planning on coming will you leave us a comment just so we know um, how many cinnamon bears to buy?
****Post Edit: We've gotten some emails this morning asking if people can just stop by, say hi, and drop off any skirts they have to donate----let me see...um....YES!!! That would be awesome!!! If you don't have time to stay and sew we would still love to have you pop in even if it is only for a few minutes. (And if you have skirts to drop off so much the better!!!)
Hope to see you there!
