Season 5 Themes

Like we said yesterday, Season 5 doesn't officially start until September 10th but we're giving you all the weekly themes early just in case you want a head start on sewing along.
(I didn't get to sew along last time and am determined to this time.)

So...for your sewing pleasure, here's the line up for Season 5:

Week One:
Pattern Remix---For this challenge we will be using the talented Katy's ( No Big Dill  ) Very Biased Skirt tutorial.  Simply check out her skirt of awesomeness and then figure out a way to remix it!

Week Two:
Fashion Icon Challenge---For this week choose a favorite, notable, or famous fashion icon and design an outfit inspired by your choice.

Week Three:
The White Sheet Challenge---For this challenge the rules are simple---you can only use one white sheet (up to a King size) as your primary source of material.  You can do with it what you want but your look must be made primarily from that one white sheet.

Week Four:
Boys Week---You know how this one works---just create an outfit for a boy!

Week Five:
Holiday Wear---This challenge is up to you.  Design an outfit for any fall holiday of your choice---Halloween, Thanksgiving, Election Day, Rosh Hashanah, Columbus Day, etc.

Week Six:
Signature Look Week---Design a look that is all you---your signature style.

Now you have it---the designers, the themes, and tomorrow a little more information about the sew along.  We're excited...and ready!  Let's get this party started!

  2. So I'm Australian and not really familiar with all of the American holidays. Is there somewhere you can point me to that lists them?

    2. Umm not really lol! Halloween is sort of catching on here, but most of our holidays are at the start of the year, Australia Day, Queen's Birthday, Labour Day, ANZAC Day? I don't know I just know we get a lot of public holidays ahha

    2. I already have my white sheet out and was staring at it all day thinking 'what do you want to be?!!?!?!' With the exception of the bias skirt - I think I'm going to try something for the boys for every challenge... that is making the white sheet one harder. But watching the 'sew in tune' series at Melly Sews/Oh Boy has gotten me interested in all the fabric dying/painting/bleach stenciling/etc... that is out there to try. I can't wait to see what everyone does - all the designers have their own style!!!

  6. Max---I just sent you an email but...just saying for anyone who is reading along through the comments....you totally don't have to do American holidays...if you're Australian choose an Australian holiday! That would be awesome.

  10. Wow, I'll definitely try to sew along on some of these :)
Not completely sure what you mean by remixing the pattern? Help me out on this one, anyone?

  11. Exiting! I've never done anything with bias strips but it sounds interesting, thinking maybe something for my younger son with bias strips for a more textural effect(bias strip dinosaur reverse applique?) and maybe a newborn dress for the unborn miss :) Very exited to try sewing along this season! Been brainstorming ideas all morning! Now I just need that sewing part to get here and be the right fix!

  13. Sounds like fun! Ch1: a pattern remix or a technique challenge? Is it specifically making a 'skirt' or can it be using the bias technique on another item? Can it be for child or adult? Thanks! maggie

    1. Either! You can make a skirt (or a skirt into something else) or just use the bias technique....

It does need to be for a child.

  14. Ch3: Does it have to be an outfit or can I go more for the "play" bit?
