November's Challenge

Alright!
Danielle is back today with her challenge for you this month...and it's a good one!!

I've made quite few different garments over the years, but if I had to choose one element that unified most of them, it would be textile manipulation. If you want to know the truth, sewing isn't always super relaxing for me. But I LOVE hand-dying, painting with dye, stamping with fabric paint, digitally designing and printing fabric, embroidering, quilting, appliqueing, or any other method you can think of that changes basic fabric in some way! In terms of designing, these are all things that can further personalize your vision of exactly what you want to create, and the part of the design process that makes me feel totally zen! I see textile manipulation as a critical element to my design process and hope you will be excited to implement it too!

So the rules are pretty loose on this challenge. Create a garment that incorporates at least one element of textile manipulation, that enhances your design in a meaningful way. It doesn't have to be elaborate. Just meaningful in that it adds to the overall aesthetic of your look.  With the Holidays coming up and many of you making special outfits or jammies, this is a chance to go crazy and be creative! I don't have a specific tutorial for you to follow, because we've already established I am a rotten blogger, but I've created a pinterest page with resources to get you started. In addition, Dharma Trading Co is a where I buy most of my supplies and they have many tutorials and how-to's. Also, feel free to just go off the beaten path here and come up with your own thing. As long as you manipulate your textile in some way, it's fair game! Good luck and I can't wait to see what you create!

And don't forget to wear gloves!

  4. My friend linked me that the new theme was up and a couple hours later my mum randomly sent me a message about a technique she used to use on fabric when she was a kid. She had no idea about this, so I think it's just meant to happen! Thanks for such a fun theme Danielle!

  6. I have never in my life changed the color of fabric in any way. I have been terrified of it! But this challenge was just what I needed to push past that mental barrier, and I do believe you MIGHT have created a monster. :-) I can't wait to share what I'm working on!
