Skorts For Summer - Inspiration

skort5 skort2
Hey all! Bonnie from Whisk 'Em here with some fun, skort-y inspiration for your summer sewing! I absolutely LOVE skorts...I loved wearing them as a kid and I love making them for my girls now. They feel fancy like a skirt, but with the modesty and flexibility of shorts; perfect for any active girl!

While traditionally the term "skort" refers to flowy shorts that look like a skirt, lately it's also come to mean skirts with shorts attached, like this cute little knit number. And I'm obsessed! Aren't those little cherries just the...um, cherry on top?? Ha! I really don't know why I ever make skirts for my girls without shorts attached...it barely takes any extra work and keeps those cute bums covered! I used Thread Faction's #106 skort pattern and it was a breeze to sew up. Both knits were from my stash (bought from Girl Charlee in years past).

If you're looking for a slightly dressier skort option, you can try the Calypso Culottes pattern. These have a flat-front elastic waistband with front pleats but they're flowy and also a simple sew. This fabric I used is a silky rayon challis (also found sitting in The Stash) but this pattern also works well with drapey knits.

Oh boy - anyone else have a mini-diva on their hands at home too?? If you've caught the skort-sewing bug, check out some other pattern options below. Happy Sewing! Sporty Girl Skort * Skirt with shorts (Free sz 6 pattern) * School Belle Skort * Monkey Bar Skirt (Free graded pattern)
