December Plans and My Favorite Thing link up

Today we get to tell you about what's going to happen in December.  We're so excited about these events!  There are going to be more giveaways, more features, and more fun, all surrounding the theme "My Favorite Things."
Of course we want you to get involved, so we've got a little challenge for you.  Today we're opening the December link up and here's what you do:
1: Choose the favorite thing you sewed for a child in 2016!
2: Write about WHY it's your favorite thing.
3: Link it up below.

When we started looking back through everything we've sewed for our children in 2016 we realized the task of choosing a favorite is going to be very difficult if you're anything like us!  So to make your job a little more rewarding, we're going to give one link up a $25 gift card from one of our favorite pattern makers, Hey June Handmade!  (Something for you, something for your child!)  Link up will close December 26 at 12pm.  Winner will be chosen at random.

We can't WAIT to see and read about your Favorite Thing!

  1. This is Deborah from Sew Much To Give. My favorite things to sew were the Polartec Fleece clothing pieces that I made for my granddaughters. I've never sewn with this high quality fleece before. I even bought a book or two to rethink the sewing techniques I would use while sewing a fabric that doesn't fray, shrink, or need facings. I think I made a dozen different clothing items and they all were fun to sew. Smiles, Deborah

  4. Ha! I have a bit of a cheater for this contest, see, I sewed a matching mommy and me set for my child and my grand child, so that should count for two entries ;-)
It was a Liverpool knit stretch fabric from @lafinchfabrics and for mommy it was @patternsforpirates peglegs and for baby it was @littlefinchpatterns Chillax leggings and @newhorizonsdesigns provincial top.

It's my favorite because they are just too stinking adorable! See for yourself! https://www.instagram.com/p/BL-IoI0jUU8/

  5. Yikes! Just one favourite thing - I'm not sure I can choose, so I'll pick my daughter's favourite-a fancy dress princess/Marie Antoinette costume.

  7. This is one of my favorite but it was so hard to pick just one. The girls really enjoyed that it was all for make believe, and all patterns I used were so much fun for me to sew.

  9. Picking one thing was hard, my Made it Mash up won out because I am so satisfied how the colors look together and that I managed to get two pattern of my to do list by creating one dress, that can be worn three different ways, that must be like a quadruple win :)

  11. The Blaverry Vivie was my first button placket and really challenged my skills at that point. I'm such a quick sew lover that this dress proved to be so rewarding since I took my time and just enjoyed the whole process. The best part is my girly just loves it!

  12. Oh it's hard to choose a favourite, but here goes...
In the spirit of Project Run and Play; When my son told me, 10 days out from the school concert, that he wanted blue jeans, a white T-shirt and a leather jacket, I was all "oh, that might not be possible" on the outside, but secretly making instant plans on the inside.
So the leather may actually be vinyl, but he thinks he is the coolest thing ever in this outfit and I'm quietly quite impressed with myself. :)
Burda denim jeans, Oliver + S cotton-lycra T-shirt and Ottobre Windy jacket adapted in "leather".

  13. It was so hard to choose a favorite, but I think one of the items I am most proud of is the Friday Dress from Petit a Petit and Family. I was pleased that I was able to "save" the dress from my mistake of not checking first to see if I had enough fabric, and I was so happy that despite all of the buttonholes the pattern calls for, my machine cooperated on all of them. It's always nice when you have the perfect buttons in your stash, too.

    1. This is probably the one thing you made that I am going to have to have in my size!

  14. My favorite is the Friday Dress from Petit a Petit- I made it out of the most gorgeous double gauze, and instead of buttons I installed fabric covered snaps! The fabric and snaps make this dress totally wearable for a kid, but the pattern and fabric make it look like it came from a high end childrens boutique :) It was just challenging enough for me to feel totally satisfied with myself when it was done but not challenging enough that I got discouraged.

  15. One of my favourite things to do this year was to make matching outfits for the kids - and sometimes with me too!!!

  16. My favorite outfit I made for my daughter was her "Meow" cat outfit - I took extra time and made her a matching purse, and I think that put it over the top for her. She uses the purse all the time, and every time she wears the entire outfit gets unsolicited compliments from random people....I know my daughter feels great in this outfit, so that's why it's my favorite....this year, anyways!

  17. It's so hard to choose, especially since I sew for two girls. However, this is one of my favorites: A tie-dye Linville romper. The pattern is from Hey June's new tween line, which has become my absolute favorite for my girls. The fabric is some lovely rayon challis from Imagine Gnats that I felt was fun for a 10-year-old and yet not too "old."

  18. My favorite thing was the Hey June Handmade Laramie Shirt & Dress because it was like taking a beautifully orchestrated sewing class and it turned out as if it were professionally tailored just for my daughter. <3

  19. My favorite thing that I've made for my daughter this year has to be the Primrose Pullover from CaliFaye Collections. I'm one of those people who makes whatever the latest thing they've sewn their "new" favorite thing but this is REALLY my absolute favorite thing that I've sewn for her.

  20. My favorite thing I sewed for my sister this year was the Janie Dress from Mouse House Creations. It is such a classic style perfect for everyday or special occasions. My little sister loves wearing it too, which is a win for me because that doesn't always happen! Sometimes she is a picky 4 year old! I love the fabric too - I used french terry for the bodice and it worked beautifully.

  21. My favourite thing is hard to pick, probably some French terry shirts, a sew by pattern pieces pattern, the fun tee, as they were cosy for winter and beautiful, and I am obsessed with French terry right now. Don't get me wrong, I love my hey June, I just don't have many of the kids patterns, yet :)

  22. The dress I linked to above (just sew inclined blog) was my favorite thing I made my girl this year. It sadly no longer fits! It was the perfect combination of gorgeous fabric and design elements I love (pintucks anyone?)

I'm not a massive fan of the company that made the pattern anymore, I've seen too many issues in other patterns. But this dress came together beautifully!

  23. My favourite sew this year was a hack on the Louisa Coat by Compagnie M. I went all the way with the details: thumb holes, a detachable fur trimming, magnet closures on the zipper flap, modified pockets, piping. I also used my absolute favorite fabrics for it. I so hope it will still fit next winter!

  24. It is always hard to choose, but my daughter is still enamored with the self drafted swing dress for 4th of July. I was so happy with how it turned out and it is worn all the time.

  25. My link up (Avery's Favorite Dress...Ever) was my favorite for a lot of reasons. Number one, it is my daughter's favorite dress and that just makes me immensely happy. Number two, the fabric is serious eye candy. Number three, it is the perfect dress for everyday play or for wearing to church. Number four, I worked really hard to get this dress exactly how I wanted it, which meant a lot of trial and error and some tossed dresses. But all that work was worth it in the end. I love a success-dress-story, especially after much failure.

  26. The favorite thing I've sewn was a shopkins peek-a-boo pick up dress for my daughters 5th birthday. Why? First, it was my first patterned sewing piece and I learned a lot from it. But the biggest and best reason was seeing how my daughter lit up when she saw it. That's what its all about!
