Celebrity Judges
It's always an honor to work with some of the incredible talent in this online sewing community by bringing them in as guest judges! Our contestants always benefit greatly from their feedback on the submissions, and we love building the community that is our happy place. Without further ado, here are the fantastic people joining us this season!
Natasha Christmas of Peony Patterns
Natasha is the owner and one of a group of talented international pattern designers for Peony Patterns, a childrenswear pdf pattern company. Her focus is to design beautiful and modern unique sewing patterns for sewists with all levels of skill. Despite being relatively new to the indie pattern community, Peony has already built a reputation for their beautiful dress and embroidery patterns that produce heirloom quality pieces! We're so lucky to have Natasha's discerning eye on our designer's looks this season!
Katie Kortman of Katie Kortman Art
Katie is an artist with a Bachelors (BFA) in Drawing and Painting from Brigham Young University and a Masters in Teaching Art. She teaches art and sewing from her home in Japan, designs fun fabric, released an ebook: Wear Happy Color!, killed it as a contestant on Bravo's Project Runway, (our blog's inspiration!) and released her own line of fantastically colorful clothing!!! To say we are beyond thrilled and honored to have Katie with us this season is a total understatement. Follow her on Instagram for the most colorful addition to your day!
Sherri Herrera of Sofiona Designs
Hi there! I’m Sherri. A long time fan of Project Run and Play and designer alumni. It was my turn on PR&P that encouraged me to start my own design company, Sofiona Designs and I will continue to give credit to this experience for encouraging my love for hacking patterns and then encouraging me to pursue designing for others. My 2 daughters have been with me on this journey as the recipients of most of my sewing and now they help decide what types of items to create into patterns. I love giving them clothes and accessories that they want to wear and strive to provide options for other tweens and teens. Or course, I also enjoy sewing for myself along the way. I can’t wait to see what this season’s sewists have up their sleeves!
It would be fair to say that Sofiona patterns are staple patterns for all of us on the PRP Team! We greatly value Sherri's opinion, and are so excited to hear her take on the designer's looks!
Nephi Garcia of Designer Daddy
If you're into cosplay, you've definitely heard of Nephi Garcia! He's a Filipino powerhouse, tearing up Instagram with jaw dropping ballgowns for his wife and the viral transformation dress for his daughter. If you need inspiration for family costumes, the ones he makes for himself and his 4 boys are every bit as incredible as the dresses! Currently, you can find Nephi renovating a church in Virginia with his family, turning it into a castle straight out of DisneyWorld. All while continuing to design custom couture gowns, running a local candyshop and launching a line of fairytale wedding dresses that are making every princess fan weak in the knees! We can't wait to hear from Designer Daddy!
Panel of Judges
We are so lucky to have some of our amazing alumni join our judging panel! This panel will judge the designers' looks each week during Season 26, and keep the scoring consistent from week to week.
Meet Tami from Sew Sophie Lynn
I've been a PRP fan from day one and love all of the inspiration each new season brings. I was a past contestant on Seasons 12 and 15 and enjoyed the opportunity to get creative and sew up things I never dreamed I could! As a busy mom of 5, sewing and the PRP community bring me so much joy and fulfillment. You can find me on Instagram and on my blog at SewSophieLynn.
Meet Nele from Sew Story by Nele
My name is Nele and I live in Belgium with my family! I’m a nursing teacher by day and serial sewist by night. I just love sewing, fabric, pattern testing, learning new things… and make all the clothes for my 3 beautiful boys and my amazing little girl! I host sewing workshops and love teaching people the basics of sewing! I really like the joy, excitement and pride it brings to others when they are creating something on their own! And I’m very excited to be a part of Project Run and Play this season!
Meet Mandalynn from Striped Swallow Designs
- Hi there, it's me -- Mandalynn, the owner of Striped Swallow Designs pattern company. After attending college to learn how to drive ships and graduating from Texas A&M University, I worked in the maritime industry for 5 years. When my husband and I got married I created everything for our wedding and we were featured in The Knot magazine. After that I knew I wanted to focus on my creative side. I started sewing handbags and then garments after having our first daughter, opening my first Etsy store. At that time, I had trouble finding pdf patterns that reflected my free spirit style and after a couple years I started getting burnt out on sewing the same thing over and over -- that's when I decided to start drafting patterns. It has truly been the best decision I ever made. I've always loved math, computers and being creative, and though I didn't know it when I headed off to college to sail on ships...this is definitely a dream job for me and I love every minute of it!
Each week the designers are scored based on this format:
1/3 score : Celebrity Guest Judge
1/3 score: Panel of Judges
1/3 score: public voting
We are so lucky to have these three talented ladies sitting on our panel this season!
