Meet the Designers: Justine from Sew Country Chick

Hi I'm Justine from the Sew Country Chick blog and I am so thrilled to be participating in Project Run & Play!

I'm a Hollywood Girl turned Country Mama.

Our family moved from a very hectic Los Angeles out to an old farmhouse surrounded by orange and avocado ranches a few years ago. We grow our own food, raise chickens, and do a lot of DIY projects.  We have five children, my step daughter 25, my son 18, my daughter 16, and two more daughters ages 9 and 3. I have had my hands full for a long time!

About 3 1/2 years ago while pregnant with my three year old, I started reading sewing blogs and decided I was finally going to teach myself to sew properly after having a bad start at twenty when I  signed up for a fashion design program that was way over my head due to my complete lack of sewing skills at the time.

I started to sew like a maniac. It was like my nesting instinct was on steroids! I had finally found my passion!
Two years ago I started my sewing blog Sew Country Chick and I can now say the majority of my clothing and that of my younger daughters is Me Made.

I didn't start making original designs for my kids until this year after being so inspired by joining the Project Run And Sew Alongs.

The great thing about starting my blog was I realized that I don't have to have a full time job
in the fashion industry in LA or New York to design clothes.
I can do it at home and still be a full time mom, even if my designs are just for me, my daughters, and a few friends.
Thanks to the blogging community, there is so much support and inspiration we get from one another.

  2. I like the part about not having to work in LA or NYC, but still being able to design clothes for yourself and loved ones and finding satisfaction in it. I also can't believe you are self-taught - very inspiring!
