Meet the Designers: Maria from La Inglesita

Hola! My name is María and I sew and blog from Spain. I am self taught in sewing and have learnt most of what I know from my books, through the trial and error method and from you (yes, you generous bloggers who post wonderful tutorials so that I can design and make my children clothes how I like).
Being an architect I’m strongly influenced by sketches, drawings, patterns and fabric texture. To me each sewing project is like a mini architectural project. I first make a rough sketch of what I have in mind, then draw up the pattern pieces, play with the fabric a million times until I´m happy with colour, weight, etc, then think about construction details (how I love assembling a garment, geek!), and start the stitching process completely absorbed by it. I love hand sewing (double geek!) so I usually slipstitch hems or add hand sewn details. I tend to choose solids, linen and patterns with fun twists rather than prints, quilting cotton and basic shapes but I´m unpredictable too, so who knows what I´ll be wanting to explore next!
As a mum of three young kids and working in the mornings, I have very little time to sew but my wonderful husband understands how important is for me. I had my doubts about entering the competition because it will demand 120% of me during the weeks I´m in, but he’s promised he’ll be fine. Pasta, pesto and pizza and we’ll be OK, he said.
I am thrilled to be here and very thankful to Liz and Elizabeth for trusting in me.
Hope you enjoy my creations!
María
