Hi everyone! I'm Caila from
CailaMade and I'm so happy to be here today! I've been following Project Run and Play since the very first season, so you can imagine how exciting this is for me.
Now, for some specifics. I'm a 32- year old mamma to three little blonds who like to make my life a wonderful chaos. They all have HUGE personalities (just like their momma) and talk really loud so our house is always full of noise, and singing, and thankfully, a lot of joy. Hudson is six, Abby is three and a half, and Stryder (my baby) is almost two years old.
I started sewing back in 2009 when I was pregnant with my daughter, Abby, and we thought there might be a defect in her heart. It took awhile before we could get answers from a specialist and in the meantime I was going crazy over thinking everything. You know how fear is. It gets ahold of you and won't let go unless you replace it with something else. I replaced it with sewing, which to me represented HOPE. I pulled out my mom's old sewing machine, read some blogs, and started sewing like crazy for that little girl's life. She was going to be okay, and by golly, she would also have some really cute bedding.
After all that fuss, we learned there was nothing wrong with Abby's heart and life moved forward with two new dreams: my daughter, and sewing. I've been creating clothing for all three of my kids ever since and I get a particular joy out of sewing
summer dresses and
boy shorts. I love
bright colors, sunshine,
print mixing, and
color blocking, among other things. I also really, really, love
making patterns and teaching people how to sew.
Blogging became a part of my life a couple of years ago while my husband was in Nursing school and I needed something to do in the evenings. I wanted an outlet for my creative energies (I'm a writer by trade) and a way to participate in the wonderful creative community I had watched grow on the Internet. Plus, sewing bloggers had given me a lifeline during those months of fear by teaching me how to sew and I wanted to return the favor.
CailaMade was born, a place where I share the items I am creating and the life I am making.
I can't wait for this season of Project Run & Play to start! These kinds of sewing competitions always stretch me in ways I don't anticipate and bring new friendships into my life. If you'd like to see more of what I've sewn, please visit my blog
CailaMade. I believe it's a bright and happy place with lots of
inspiration. It's pretty much summer year-round where I live in Southern California, so that's how I sew. I like to post summer tutorials in the winter, and use
bright colors all year round. If you need a sunny, happy fix during a particularly gray winter day,
head my way! I hope to get to know many of you during this season.
Thanks for reading!
What a great bio Caila!
