Meet The Designer: Gemia from Phat Quarters

Hello! I am Gemia Carroll. I create, sew, & blog at Phat Quarters. You can find me on Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest under the same name.  Phat Quarters is also my small fabric shop that I fill with my favorite fabrics, children’s clothing pattern, haberdashery, quilt patterns, and more.  I love being an active part of the online sewing community; participating in blog tours, sewing as a member of different groups, sew-alongs, and making life-long friends.
When I am not creating I am enjoying my favorite role as wife and mother. I have been married for over 16 years to a crazy adventurous man! We have five children ranging in ages from 13 to 5, three girls and two boys. We love to hike and adventure outdoors. We have recently moved from Washington State to Idaho and spend our free time exploring our new area. I also have a passion for scrapbooking & photography. While I love photographing my children and other families, I also love to photograph nature. I had a dream when I was young to be a National Geographic’s photographer, maybe when I grow up I will still try.

When I design, create, & sew I feel liberated and empowered. I love developing these talents and I love to push my limits. While I have fun sewing everyday clothing for my children, I am most excited with the challenge of turning clothing & styles I imagine in my mind into real garments that make my heart happy! I love layers & details. I LOVE mixing fabric patterns and adding trims. Currently I enjoy designing clothes for my tween daughters that have a bit of the ‘grown-up edge’ they crave yet, still maintain the soft sweetness that they will always deserve.  I find peace in slow sewing and treasured techniques that create beautiful garments, inside & out. I am so thrilled to finally be a part of this fun and challenging contests. I am most excited to turn these fun prompts into creative clothing that will spark your imagination as well!
