Meet The Designer: Justine from Sew Country Chick

Hi I'm Justine and I have been blogging about sewing at Sew Country Chick since 2010, when I got back into sewing after many years off. I earned a degree in fashion design and worked in the business as a film costumer, but then left my job which required very long hours to raise my first child who is now 24. I'm a mom of five and since starting my blog, my older kids have moved out for college and life after, and the only little one I have left to sew for is my eight year old daughter.
Lily my model from the last time I was on PR&Play is now a 15 year old pink haired rebel, but still wears some things I make her, as long as they pass the cool test. The last thing I made her was some black & white checkered overalls. Gigi is also picky and has a very definite sense of her own style, so every thing I now make these girls has to be a collaboration.

I was excited to be asked to participate in Project Run And Play again. I mostly sew for myself nowadays, and I welcome the opportunity to make some fun outfits for Gigi, my eight year old.
Since being on Project Run & Play I have been up to many things sewing wise. I worked as a costume designer for my local theater, made custom wedding gowns for local brides, wrote regular articles for other blogs as well as Sew News magazine and appeared on their TV show, Sew It All. I was the Mod Podge girl at a Craft & Hobby Association Expo. Lots of randomness!
However, I've taken the past year or so off from trying to be a professional sewing person to just relax and sew for myself and fine tune my skills. There is always room for improvement and something new to discover in sewing, whether it's your hobby or your profession.
I've taken up tennis in the past couple of years, and play for two local women's tennis teams. It's a great excuse for making cute tennis outfits. I also became the coach for Gigi"s Track & Field Team, and I also make her running outfits. I like to stay active, but it's also a great excuse to sew fun things!
I'm looking forward to getting behind my sewing machines the next few weeks, as I love a sewing challenge!
