Meet the Designer: Shannon of CKC Patterns

Hello Project Run and Play! I'm Shannon and I am so very excited and honored to be participating in this season. I have been a huge fan of PR&P since Season 1 and I dreamed of one day being a contestant, but I never actually thought it might happen!

I live in Michigan and last year we moved to an island in the Detroit River with my husband of nearly 12 years, our two children, Xavier and Charlotte, and our two dogs, Jill, the Australian Shepard, and Vincent, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

I am also a co-owner at CKC Patterns and for the past 6 years I've been designing strictly girls clothing, however, this year I began working on women's patterns and I am having so much fun! It's going to take some getting used to switching my focus back to girls clothes for this competition, but I am up for the challenge.

I have only been sewing for about 9 years, but I grew up at my grandma's feet while she sewed my school clothes throughout elementary school and quilts for her children and grandchildren. I'm pretty sure my entire family had no doubts that one day I would be a sewer, but never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd be making a career of it! I feel so lucky to be able to do what I love every day and I know my grandma, who passed away just two months ago, was so proud of me.

My style when I began sewing was strictly boutique girls clothing; as long as it had the signature CKC ruffles I was happy to sew it! Now that my daughter is older--7 years older and definitely a tween to be precise--my style has been evolving. I really don't feel like I have a specific "style" so much as I go through phases of working with different materials and trims; I feel like I still have so much to learn and try! Currently, I am all about knits with double brushed poly, ITY, modal, and rayon spandex being my fabrics of choice right now. Of course, I will be stepping out of that box though for this competition!

I would love for you to take a moment to follow me through my business social media sites and I invite you to follow me on my personal Instagram as well.
