Hello! I'm Catherine and I blog over at cathgrace. I like to think of myself as a general maker, but my heart always returns to sewing as my first great love. I have sewn almost daily since I was a little girl, and have a lovely Gramma and Mom in my sewing lineage. (Every time I sew anything, I imagine my Gramma tunelessly whistling next to me, a pin clutched in her mouth, sewing with the most beautiful little stitches; or my mom sitting across a quilt frame from me, chatting and sewing our love into a baby blanket.)
In my real life I am a wife to an Air Force Husband, living in S. Korea with our 2 children. I have the greatest passion for children's clothes and filling a gap in my daughter's wardrobe since commercial clothing companies seem to have 2 options for girls her age and size (baby or sexy teen), neither of which is appropriate for a vivacious and sweet, not so little girl. (Okay, I'm going to go ahead and say it, sexy teen isn't appropriate for ANYONE!) I am heavily inspired by a Bohemian feel, combined with the idea of classical, real looking children's clothes that can stand a good wash, and be worn over and over again without falling apart (which is more than can be said for lots of store bought clothes!) I am so excited to be on Project Run and Play, and being in the company of such lovely ladies is going to be so fun and inspirational! Thanks for having me!!!
I am so with you on the limited choices for girls clothing these days. I was reading your bio, going "Yeah! That's Right. Sexy Teen isn't appropriate!!!". Good stuff, Catherine! I'm so inspired!!!
ReplyDeleteI also laughed about your grandma whistling off key. :) Too funny!
Thanks Shannon! I'm super excited to see what you make too!
DeleteI have said many times that I find it almost impossible to find appropriate clothing for my 7 year old girl. I can't wait to see what you come up with!
ReplyDeleteThank You so much! I hope I don't disappoint!
DeleteI have been following your blog for a while now. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteThanks Olga, I'm going to need it with all the talent out there!

ReplyDeleteThanks Rachel, I am very nervous!
DeleteI´ll be entering the seven year old clothing style this year so thanks for sharing your designs with us. My daughter had a glance at your blog the other day and she liked what she saw :-)

I am so pleased that your daughter liked some of my stuff! Thanks :)
DeleteI'm so excited to see what you come up with! I love your style and your classiness!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Sally! I hope I earn one or two of your votes this season!
DeleteI think 'sexy teen' might be a kind way to say it. I wholeheartedly agree, and hope Gap, Old Navy, etc. are listening.
ReplyDeleteAwww man, I hope their listening too, I think that A LOT of people are looking for nice modest clothes for their kids, and I don't know why stores haven't tapped that market!
DeleteOh how exciting! I can't wait to see your stuff! I'm super in love with the boho/gypsy look this summer!
ReplyDeleteThanks Max, I am looking forward to your entries too!
DeleteMy gorgeous girl is turning 7 tomorrow and in recent months, I've been searching for patterns to make items for her wardrobe that allow her to continue to be what she is, a "girl" ... Mel xox
ReplyDeleteIt is such a fun challenge though to get them well dressed! Happy Birthday to your sweet girl!
DeleteI love your style (I may have told you that before ;op) I also think that sexy - or just bad style is trickling younger and younger for girls. I'm still in the world of options with a baby, but my niece is 5 and it is hard to find good stuff for her too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Suzanne, you are always so kind!
DeleteI am excited to see the new things you'll create for this contest, your designs are so inspirational. I totally agree with you on the sexy clothes for girls - let them be sweet and modest!
ReplyDeleteThanks Joy!
DeleteI am so excited that you are a contestant! You totally deserve it!!
ReplyDeleteThank You so much! (I'm totally nervous!)
DeleteI may or may not have spent a looong time oohing and aahing over your blog!! You are so talented, can't wait to see what you whip up!
ReplyDeleteThank You Melanie, that is such a great compliment!
DeleteSo glad to see you here! Can't wait to see your designs!
