Meet the Designers: Max from Max California

Hi! I'm Max! I am super stoked to be here, as part of the Project Run & Play competition! I blog over at Max California and I come from Australia. What an awesome way to start the new year by looking at our faces! Hahah. I learned how to sew when I was around 8 years old. My mama taught me how to make Cabbage Patch Kid dresses and I liked sewing pencil cases for school. And appliquéing. I appliquéd faces of the characters from Rugrats onto everything. I started to sew a lot more when I left highschool and had more access to the internet and found lots of craft websites and blogs. Soon I moved to Brisbane with my then-boyfriend {now husband!} Tim and I studied fashion at the Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE but I dropped out in my second year! I loved learning though, I really enjoyed it! Pattern-making was my favourite class, and even though I disliked the theory, it was still cool to learn about all the different fabrics and set them on fire to test flammability.

I'm mama to two gorgeous kids, Vincent who is 3 and a half and Edison who is almost 6 months old! {Vince doesn't really wear glasses. He's just a dork}. They are my driving force for life, everything I do revolves around them. When I had Vinnie I was worried about sewing for him; would it be good enough? Would it fit? What do little boys wear anyway? And then the Internet came through for me, like always, and I found Dana & Rae's blogs and inspiration shone out from my computer screen and into my studio ^_^

My kids have different clothing styles: Vinnie has always been a bit trendy, a bit dapper, but always with a rock 'n' roll twist whereas Eddie is a girly-girl, her wardrobe is full of vintage dresses and pretty florals although after 6 months of it, I can officially say I am OVER pink. I also make her some trendy gear too, and she wears her big brother's old things {and gets mistaken for a boy of course!} I've been working so hard to come up with unique designs that are true to my offbeat style, and I am SO excited to show you what I have done! I just hope I'm good enough to earn your vote :) May the Force be with you!
