Meet the Designer: Whitney from Sew Whit Designs

Hi I'm Whitney from SewWhit Designs. I'm a mom to five amazing kiddos and wife to a great guy who supports me in all my crazy endeavors. I'm a third generation sewist. My earliest sewing memories include making Barbie doll clothes with my grandma when I was about seven.

I have a bachelors degree from BYU in Family and Consumer Science Education with an emphasis in Clothing and Textiles. I have taught middle, high school and beginning college lab sewing. I've have also worked doing custom bridal (including my own wedding dress), swim and dancewear. In 2006 I worked as a production/design assistant for Shade Clothing. I took a bit of a break when I had my 5 kids (in six years). Its finally time for me to jump back into the sewing world.

I am a rule follower and I like to do things the "proper way" so going from a traditional seamstress, using proper tailoring techniques, to an "anything goes," digital PDF patterns, cut with a projector and rotary blade, sewist has been of a bit of an internal struggle for me. But, the flexibility of doing things in a new way, has been fun for me to embrace. I thoroughly enjoy testing patterns and sewing strike offs for indie pattern and fabric companies. But, I also love going back to my roots and sewing up a good old Vouge paper pattern.

I have followed Project Run and Play for a few seasons now and I have enjoyed sewing along. This is a fabulous group of women who truly inspire me. I am honored to be part of season 25!
