I present to you the Reversible Cheeky Trousers Tutorial!
Last year I whipped up these Tiny Heiny Valentiney Reversible Baby Britches and the tutorial has the second-most hits on my blog!
Well I have revamped that tutorial for my 5-year-old's more sophisticated taste and come up with a tutorial for some 70s inspired reversible trousers. You can use the same basic tutorial with these adjustments:
For the extras:
Originally I started with 2 belt loops (the 2 X 3 strips) but quickly discovered that the sash rides up like crazy without a belt loop in the back!
Also, did you notice how the hearts on the back pockets are sideways? Yeah, I didn't either until they were done...oops.
Here is the pocket construction:
I strongly recommend sewing the pockets to the pants BEFORE sewing the pants together. Otherwise you'll have a time trying to maneuver it...trust me :-) Since every size will have different pocket placement you'll just have to eyeball it. Make sure you account for seam allowances when you're placing the pockets!Sash construction:
Follow the same pants construction instructions as on the original tutorial, but instead of using those waist instructions use these: (You will be making 3 rows of stitches instead of 2.)
For some reason I didn't take any pictures of the belt loop construction but it's super easy, you just fold the 2 X 3 strips lengthwise right sides together and sew down the long side. Turn it, fold in the two short sides and press. Position on your pants like so:

As my sweet model pointed out to me, you can use the sash that isn't on your pants in your hair like a headband! I love that kid.

Very cute! I love the folded up hem, in fact just this morning I realized I was 1.5" short on the pants I was making for my son. I was thinking about added a contrasting fabric to the bottom but wasn't sure how it would look. Now I know it will be cute!
