Today we have some more adorable Back to School looks by Lindsay of PACountryCrafts!
My nieces are getting ready for back to school so I wanted to sew something special for them with Boho Fabrics. We did a little photo shoot at the one room schoolhouse where their great-great-grandfather attended.
For my older niece I sewed a Lagoon dress with the short puff sleeves and high low fishtail skirt. I have never sewn with cupro fabric and didn't really know what it was so I added it to my cart on a whim! It did NOT disappoint! This fabric is silky smooth with a perfect drape for this dress! For an extra layering piece, I sewed a Blank Canvas Cardigan. I had to omit the hem band because I ran out of fabric (I have more projects to show later!) but it is so soft and cozy in this brushed sweater knit fabric.
My youngest niece got a Lavender dress with long sleeves. This Bachelor Button Woven Prada Twill fabric will be lovely for cooler fall days and the best part is that it never wrinkles! I sewed the lace to the bodice instead of creating an inset because it was too narrow but it gives the same effect. For the skirt, I lowered the lace inset for my personal preference.
I also sewed a pair of Elodie shorts underneath for a little extra coverage while roughhousing on the playground. The navy cotton spandex knit worked perfectly!
Head over to my blog to see more and get the tutorial for this simple, lace hair bow!

We're so delighted to share with you Bonnie of Hem & Bind's super fun Back to School outfits for THREE of her kids!
Bonnie used patterns from the Project Run and Play shop and fabric from Boho Fabricsto created these cute and WEARABLE Back to School clothes!
Take it away, Bonnie...
It has become a much-anticipated, annual tradition for me to sew back-to-school clothes for this trio of mine! A huge THANK YOU to Project Run and Play and Boho Fabrics for inviting me to join in this year's Back-to-School event. It's amazing to see how much these kids have grown over the years!
Because we're homeschoolers and often exploring and learning out in the world, simple, comfortable clothes are favorites around here. "Simple" means quick-to-sew, too, and that's a huge bonus if you're as busy as me!
We chose solid tees and knit bottoms and added some interest with a print fabric for Wonder Girl and some really cool pockets for her brothers.
The Easel Tee is lightning fast to sew, and the dolman sleeve makes it a bit different than your everyday, run-of-the-mill t-shirt. I modified this pattern a little bit by straightening the sides and the back hem.
Abby's Spidermonkey Shorts in the same fabric as his brother's complete this outfit. I mixed it up a little, though, by turning the fabric on the outside of his pockets to the wrong side. I wasn't totally sure about this idea at first, but I love how it turned out!
Wonder Girl's ensemble definitely took more time than the other two, but I could not resist the Elodie Skort!
Wonder Girl's top is the Eclipse again, but with the gathered sleeve. We used that Cotton/Spandex Knit one more time, this time in Fairy Tale Pink!
Look at how cute this Elodie Skort is in Mekko Doodles!
With its built-in shorts, it's perfect for cartwheeling, hand-standing, or hanging upside down from the monkey bars!
Be sure to pop over to PR&P to see what all the other bloggers have sewn for their kids' first days of school! My very own Going to Lunch Bag pattern is featured over at Project Run and Play for Back-to-School this year. You can find it and lots of other amazing patterns (including all those I used above) in their pattern shop, AND you can use the code BTS2023 for 20% off of all individual patterns through midnight eastern on Friday, 8/11!
Wow! Thanks so much Bonnie! We'll see everyone tomorrow for some incredible Back to School outfits!
Today we're in for a treat!!! Rachel of Southern Magnolia Design is here with her SUPER INSPIRING Back to School sewing! We're just going to get out of your way and let Rachel take it from here...
Summer has gone by too fast and the school year is already beginning again. But as much as I dislike all the back to school shopping, I do enjoy sewing up new clothes and outfits for my kids. So I was very happy to have been invited to be part of Project Run + Play's "Back to School Tour". They have added some fabulous new patterns to their shop, including the Lavender Dress and Lilac Bloomers that I created when I was a participant in season 26 of their sewing competition.
Vintage fashion is my favorite style. So I sketched up some designs drawing influence from classic collegiate clothing from the 1950s. The Project Run + Play store had all the patterns I needed to make this complete wardrobe.
My daughter's outfit was made using the pintuck version of the Lavender dress with colors inspired by Audrey Hepburn's costume in Roman Holiday. And the Lilac Bloomers underneath will make sure that she can comfortably play on the playground without worrying about modesty.
I don't usually sew with knit fabrics, because I am more comfortable with wovens. However, the rib knit fabric from Boho Fabrics was super easy to work with. My daughter's Caraway Cardigan was made from the Mustard rib knit, and my son's Cinnamon Cardigan used their Sapphire Navy Cotton rib knit. I added monograms by tracing large printed letters onto black knit fabric and white felt. Then I ironed on an adhesive stabilizer to the back of each letter and sewed them onto the sweaters with an applique stitch.
My son's outfit was made by repurposing a pair of my husband's old khaki pants with the newly updated Star Child Skinny Jeans pattern. The instructions for this pattern were super easy to follow, and the end result was a perfect fit. I loved all the attention to detail made with the topstitching to give it a professional finish. I meant to make his shirt using the Parfait Polo pattern but ended up finding a store bought shirt in his closet that looked incredibly similar.
The accessories to the outfits were probably the most fun for me to make because they involved techniques and materials that I hadn't worked with before. Waves & Wild's Fell & Dale cap was definitely my favorite part of my son's outfit. He loves wearing hats. But he especially loves dressing up nice for church and school. So adding that little bit of extra class to his ensemble had him feeling very handsome and grown up. My daughter wanted a hat as well, and the Monet Beret in a dark navy color really brought the 50s look together.
The last thing on my list of things to make was the Jack Backpack. I have never made a bag with so many options and details as this, and I was so thrilled at being able to personalize it. I made the large size for my 6 year old daughter out of a canvas fabric and some faux leather accents. And while it is big enough to carry all of her folders and school supplies, it isn't overwhelming for her small size.
There are SO many other beautiful patterns made by amazingly talented designers on the Project Run + Play website. So check them out now during the sitewide sale: 20% off with the code BTS2023 ending 8/11 at midnight EST. The sale does not include collections, as they are already discounted.
