Pearberry Lane & Project Farmer's Market

Today we have Cassy of Pear Berry Lane sharing her creations from the Project Farmer's Market capsule wardrobe collection.

I'm so excited for Project Run and Play to be putting out their first large scale collaboration between past competitors. I only wish I was far enough along in my sewing journey to have been able to contribute.  I love the idea of the capsule concept.  Last year I basically sewed my twins an entire summer capsule.
For my featured items I tried to stick with items that would go with the capsule I've been planning.  I had originally planned a pant jumpsuit with the Seed Pattern, but then I kept getting drawn to a jumpsuit dress while scrolling Zulily.  I don't know about you, but I like to scroll Zulily and then tell myself things like, "I can make that and it would be way higher quality."  So that's what I made, a dress inspired by a Zulily sale.  I paired a cute Caraway Cardigan, so be sure to hop over and check them out at Pear Berry Lane.

Violets & Jewels & Project Farmer's Market

Today we have Rachel of Violets & Jewels sharing her creations for the Project Farmer's Market lookbook.  She sewed up 4 of the patterns and one of the freebies too!!!

Everything about this collaboration with Project Run and Play is great, you get to see the different takes that each designer has about one theme.  All the behind the scenes work to even create the look book is amazing.  All the talent that went in on this... ( I still can’t believe that I am apart of it.) I can't wait to get started on the other patterns that are available.  I need more time during the day to sew!  I hope you all have enjoyed following along as I have.  Please head over to Violets and Jewels to read more about all these garments I sewed.

Mabey She Made It & Project Farmer's Market

Today we have Lisa of Mabey She Made It sharing her creations for the Project Farmer's Market lookbook.  She made an incredible contribution to the lookbook with these patterns...how many of them do you recognize?

The Farmer's Market collection is such a fun way to create a capsule for a single child or for a group. I had so much fun creating a look for all three of my girls that coordinated and yet fit their personalities perfectly (and I used six of the 10 patterns to do it!)  These would make perfect family photo outfits since I can add in an outfit for my son from the same collection and it takes all the stress of planning outfits away since you already know the pieces work together seamlessly.

Please head over to Mabey She Made It for lots more photos and thoughts about these patterns!

Audrey for Project Farmer's Market

Hi, I’m Audrey the leader at Project Run & Play.  Since taking the lead, it had been a goal of mine to tap into the tremendous amount of talent represented among the role of past Project Run & Play designers in the form of collaborations.  One aspect of every Season is competition, and my dream was to show how these amazing women could work together to produce even greater things than they could individually.  It’s with great, great pride that I’ve been able to be a cheerleader and coordinator of this Designer Capsule #1: Project Farmer’s Market.

As a mother to nine kids, children’s wear sewing is something I love to do often!  One of my very, very favorite things to sew are button up shirts.  They are so very rewarding when they’re finished, and the classic lines never go out of style.  With that in mind, I designed and (with the help of an amazing tester team) brought the Rosemary & Thyme Shirts into fruition.  (You can check out all the tester versions here.)  They are woven popover-style shirts with a band collar.  Each has a couple of fun sleeve options, and the Rosemary has a few feminine details.

The Rosemary & Thyme Shirts are the 1st exclusive Project Run & Play pattern.  They are classic woven tops worth sewing just as they are.  But the lines are clean and useable as the building block for many great garment creations as Project Run & Play designers and fans love to do!

The Rosemary & Thyme Shirts are unique in that they are designed on 3 different size blocks with boy & girl shapes and ages in mind.  Sizes 1-6X are a unisex block and a perfect fit for boys and girls both.  The Rosemary Shirt in sizes 7-14 is a tween girl block and a perfect fit for those changing years.  The Thyme Shirt in sizes 8-16 is a tween/teen boy block ideal for the growing male.  Watch for more exclusive Project Run & Play patterns to come in the future!

Enjoy viewing the Project Farmer’s Market lookbook here.

Stay tuned for next week when more Project Run & Play designers will share their creations from Project Farmer's Market!

Kat for Project Farmer's Market

Today we shine the spotlight on Kat of Sew Chibi Designs and the Ichigo Bomber Jacket.

“Hi there! I'm Kat, creator and pattern designer of 🌈Sew Chibi Designs🦄!  In our little corner of the internet, we focus on fashion for the modern kawaii kid: full of off-beat details, bold colors, and clothes with a sense of humor!  My three girls are my muses and we are boundless with our inspiration,  constantly trying to change the perspective on what's accepted in the world of handmade kids fashion! If it's weird, playful, or rainbow-colored, we are there

Every Saturday, from April to November, we visit our local Farmer's Market!  It's one of our most important traditions and is so important to the healthy lifestyle that we strive for!  My girls love to help us pick out what veggies and fruits we should get for the week and they are also fond of collecting the "ground flowers" that collect near the flower stands!  From charcuterie to blueberries, to fresh caught fish, we're always looking for any opportunity to support our local Portland vendors!
Springtime is a chilly time here, so my girls usually need something besides samples of cocoa to keep warm!

For the 🍓Ichigo Bomber Jacket Pattern, I was inspired by fresh fruits and veggies drinks along with Japanese streetwear.  The curve of the color-blocking is supposed to be reminiscent of  juice or milk being poured into a glass!  The Japanese (or English!) applique' options for the back give a retro look to the traditional bomber jacket.  And, of course, it had to have skinny welt pockets that almost look like two straws in a glass!  Pair the Ichigo Bomber Jacket up with its sidekick, the Mochi Bag (a FREE PDF Pattern for Kids and Adults): an adjustable, zippered chest bag with a front pocket, perfect for any day trip!  As with almost all Sew Chibi Designs patterns, the Ichigo Bomber Jacket Pattern as well as the Mochi Bag are intended for girls AND boys of all almost ages (12M-16Y!)”

I choose to make a chest bag freebie for a two major reasons: 1.) Chest bags are all the rage this spring on the runways!  I haven’t really seen many patterns for such a bag; usually you see hip bags for this sort of style.  I love the idea of adapting them for kids! 2.) I don’t know about other kids, but my kiddos tend to lose things when they depend on just their pockets for holding their treasures!  The Mochi bag is zippered bag which makes it easy to keep at their little things safe!  Plus, it looks great under the Ichigo bomber jacket!  The name Mochi came from the Japanese rice cake dessert which is one of my eldest daughter’s favorite desserts!  The two patterns together make a delicious pair!

“From sharing ideas, building off of each other, and all of encouragement from the other collaborators, the whole process was so much fun!  I love how all of the pieces work so well together and that there is something for every kind of style in the collection!  The diversity of designers was one of the best parts!  It was really such a great time getting to know the other designers!”

Head over to Sew Chibi Designs to grab your copy of the Mochi Bag and read more about the Ichigo Bomber Jacket.

Celina for Project Farmer's Market

Today we're highlighting the Up Beet Tee & Dress and the Turnip Up Trousers & Shorts and their designer, Celina of Petit a Petit + Family.

Hello! I’m Celina, the creator/ designer behind Petit a Petit and Family, and Ensemble Patterns.  I took my first sewing class when I was 12 and haven’t stopped creating since then.  I’ve had my own kids label which was made from only up-cycled materials, I’ve owned the coolest kids boutique here in Montreal but most recently besides designing clothes, you can find me creating social media content (photos, videos, tutorials, etc...) and teaching all things social media to big and small businesses alike.

I had so much fun collaborating on this project, coming up with the theme and color scheme, as well as working on making our patterns work together and incorporating details that would flow from one style to the next.  I personally love creating designs that are stylish yet comfortable and I’m very keen on having special finishing touches or elements of surprise when it comes to construction.  I was excited to work on patterns that were suitable for both girls and boys.  For the UpBeet Tee & Dress, I matched a regular sleeve with a raglan one to give a fun design twist and so many options for color blocking.  I couldn’t help add a dress option too!  As for the Turnip Up Trousers & Shorts I went for style that was basic but on trend with a tapered pant/short with some fun details which makes it modern and cool.

Our local farmer’s market is our favorite spot to hang out as a family. The colors and smells, the people watching and the amazing food are just a few things I love about the Atwater Market. If you are ever in Montreal, there are good chances you’ll bump into me and my kids on a Sunday morning there.

Be sure to head over to Petit a Petit + Family to grab this darling color-blocked apron, perfect for cleaning and cooking the produce from Farmer's Market!

Bernadette for Project Farmer's Market

Today we're highlighting the D'Anjou Dress and it's designer, Bernadette of Duchess and Hare.

Hello! I’m Bernadette, the creator/ designer behind Duchess and Hare.  I've been blogging and sewing for quite a while now, but I tend to keep behind the scenes where I'm most comfortable.  Now that I've started my own company, I figured it was time to peek from around the corner and say, "HI!"

I'm a mom of 4, three of which are practically adults men at this point (Who am I kidding, one of them is actually registered to vote!) and the littlest is my model, whom you probably recognize.  I have loved the vintage look since I was a child and I can remember looking through old magazines that I found a garage sale for hours imagining what it was like to dress like the women I saw.  After 3 boys.  I was blessed with my beautiful daughter and through the years created many vintage inspired outfits for her.

I really love the theme of this project.  Farmer’s Market had my mind full of inspiration.  It was so much fun to bounce ideas off of the other ladies in this group and see what they were all doing and how it all pulled together.  My pattern, D’anjou, is great layering piece and perfect for spring.  If you leave off the flutters, it’s great under a cardigan or over a t shirt, but I do love flutters so I made my sample with them.  With lots of options and fun details, you can mix and match it with just about anything.

Be sure to head over to Duchess and Hare for the FREE video tutorial on this darling bow pattern!

Jess for Project Farmer's Market

Today we're highlighting the Banana Boat Tee and the Soleil Skirt and their designer, Jess of Lil Luxe Collection.

Hi I’m Jess, Designer/Owner of Lil Luxe collection. I’m an architectural designer turned pattern designer, work from home mom raising two little girls with my husband in the Chicagoland area. I design for the modern princess with a street style edge who’s always in fashion but down for roughing around outside with the kids on the block. We love everyday wear inspired by our sweet and sassy attitudes, the beautiful city scenes surrounding us and the social atmosphere we live in.

It's been a whirl of a time and a wonderful experience working with some pretty AHmazing designers to put together this first collaborative collection for Project Run & Play. Hard to believe its already been 4 months since we first started the collaboration!!  I love how each designer has a different point of view/aesthetic, how well we all deliberated virtually in different time zones and of course the outcome of such a cohesive capsule collection. All of the patterns work so well together and look OH SO GOOD in the LookBook!!

For my pattern contribution, I wanted something easy breezy that my girls could wear together while walking through the markets or pair with other outfits. The Banana Boat Tee has a modest neckline with cinched sides that tie together at the side with a bow for a twist on an everyday tee. The Soleil Skirt has three length options, inseam pockets, optional straps, and bow, elastic back and a flat front with faux button placket for easy wear and easy sewing!

Be sure to head over to Lil Luxe Collection to grab this fun and free DIY Tote and FREE Circuit Iron On, perfect for taking to the Farmer's Market!

Jenn for Project Farmer's Market

Remember, the release week sale of 20% off individual patterns ends Sunday, March 17th!

Today we're highlighting the Jonagold Jumper and it's designer, Jenn of Jennuine Design.

Hi, I'm Jenn of Jennuine Design.  I'm an accountant by degree and I've taken my love of logic and precision and mashed it up with my creative side to grow into a designer.  Originally from Michigan, my husband and two daughters now call New Jersey home.  I promise, we aren't living the Soprano's life here - though several places here in town were used as filming locations!  Arden (10) and Hadley (7) love wearing and modeling the clothes I make for them, often helping with planning and styling as well as modeling for photos.

I designed the Jonagold Jumper to be a comfortable and versatile wardrobe staple for any season.  With a relaxed and modern silhouette and many options it appeals to babies, toddlers, big kids, tweens, and boys or girls.  There are four options for the bottom of the jumper - skirt, shorts, crops, or pants.  During testing we added more options like an alternate straight neckline and different shaped pockets to offer choices that would appeal to different tastes.  Large front pockets can be placed on the bottoms and/or the bib.  There are multiple ways the ties can be attached - my favorite is to tie a knot through grommets.

The collaborative atmosphere for Project Farmer's Market was amazing!  All the designers worked together, pitching ideas that would complement the others, brainstorming for the theme, offering guidance and feedback as we worked through the patterns, and then sewing from the collection.  Designing can often feel somewhat isolating, and this was a wonderful opportunity to work with a great group of creative, sharing, and professional women.  What we accomplished together was so much greater than any one of us could have produced on our own.

I enjoyed getting to sew up a number of the patterns from the collection.  Again, what I gained by doing this was so much more than just some new clothes for my kids.  I was able to craft a mix and match capsule wardrobe for my two daughters, who happen to be nearly the same size.  This allowed me to be able to speak with knowledge about the fantastic quality of the patterns I sewed.  It also presented an opportunity to do a really fun, editorial style photo shoot of the collection.  I asked a photographer friend to come along as my expert, and I was able to take some shots more as an assistant while focusing on checking the styling and learning some tricks along the way.  I'm a reasonable hobbyist photographer, but Carlos' photos are the real deal and I'm so pleased with the images we captured.  A good friend of mine (also named Jennifer) owns Olive That and More where we took our photos so the girls didn't have to pretend it was warm enough to model spring looks!

As my "bonus" accessory pattern, you can pick up the Rancher Bandana on my site.  This cute and quick pattern is a bib with snap fasteners for babies, a cowl for toddlers through adults, or a one-size tied bandana.  Even our four-legged friends can get in on the action, as my dog Laser and Randi's dog happily tried it on for size!

I hope you enjoy this amazing collection of patterns we have put together for you and can't wait to see what you make!  Come join the community and share your makes on Facebook at Sew Jennuine Design or on Instagram at @jennuinedesign

Suz for Project Farmer's Market

We're delighted to share more about Suz of Sew Pony and the Seed Pattern she designed for Project Farmer's Market.

Hi there, my name is Suz.  I live in country Victoria, Australia on a six acre property with my husband and three daughters.  Isabella (10 years), Juliette (8 years) and Emily (7 years) are my main sewing inspiration! I started my blog way back in 2011 for fun and to share my sewing.  My husband Stefan came up with the name 'sewpony' as a take on the term 'show pony', since I am essentially 'showing off' the things that I sew.

The Seed pattern set offers a variety of options – a pretty, easy fitting jumpsuit or dress as well as comfortable shorts or pants.  Both the jumpsuit and dress offer a sleeveless or flutter sleeve view, button opening and elasticised waist for easy dressing.  Pockets can be incorporated as well.  The jumpsuit features shorts or pants with regular or elasticised hem.  The dress option features a below the knee length skirt.  The neckline and sleeveless view are finished with a bias hem, making the design light and well finished.  The Seed pattern is designed for lightweight woven fabric, however some knit fabrics may also be suitable.

When I decided to join Audrey and the growing team of designers and knew that we were designing for spring, I knew I wanted to design a jumpsuit.  I'm a big fan of jumpsuits and have always wanted to design one for my girls.  The Seed pattern developed along the way to also include a dress as well as separate shorts and pants...because who doesn't love too many options?  I chose the name Seed because it's sweet and is the source of farmers' market produce!  Collaborating as part of a team has been an absolute delight.  We have all supported and encouraged each other and it has helped me enormously in keeping my momentum going with designing and delivering the seed pattern!

Grab the FREE Seed Headband over on the Sew Pony blog and read more about the Seed Pattern.

Delia for Project Farmer's Market

Today we're shining the spotlight on the Caraway Cardigan and it's designer, Delia of Delia Creates.

Hi! I'm Delia, a maker and mom of three from Washington state, USA.  I love to crochet, craft, and garden, but I really fell head over heels for sewing for my kids when I participated in Project Run & Play season five.  During my season on Project Run & Play I tried to save my fabric budget by upcycling old sweaters.  The little baby sized cardigans I made from those discarded sweaters ended up being some of my most favorite items.  The Caraway Cardigan is big kid sized nod to those original cardigans and a celebration of the super power of sewing that allows you to turn nothing into a beloved treasure.

True to the spirt of Project Run and Play, this capsule pattern collaboration has pushed my abilities above and beyond what I had envisioned.  We really gleaned from one another's strengths and worked hard to produce something that I believe will be a great asset to every kid pattern collection.

I love the collection so much I sewed the entire thing for my daughter Nat!  Needless to say, she's in heaven over having a new Spring wardrobe.

To complement the theme of our collection and to honor my favorite farmer's market treat, I created a free pattern for this cute little strawberry coin purse.  It's just the right size to carry some change for a trip to the market!  Get the free pattern download and tips on how to sew with pleather on my site.
